About mypear.media
Mypear means my Patient Education And Retention media, it was set up by Paediatric Chiropractor Lara Cawthra.
Lara began her professional career as a chiropractor in 1996 after graduating from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. She did locum work in Australia before travelling to the UK, where she now resides.
During her time as a locum and associate, Lara was interested in how the different chiropractors managed their patient’s expectations. How did the patients understand what chiropractic is? Why would they want to return once they felt better? What was in it for them?
Lara found that the patients who were most likely to return to care were those who understood how the treatment could affect them in their daily lives.
Like most chiropractors, Lara started with back pain and musculoskeletal complaints in her patients and found that there was a variety of good report of finding materials she could order and use in her practice to give to her patients to take away.
However, working in rural NSW Australia she was soon presented with families and babies and her interest in Paediatrics was born. She found that there was very little material that she could give the parents of her paediatric patients to take home as a report of findings. This was over 20 years ago and very little has changed.
Using her knowledge and experience from working with the Paediatric population of over 20 years, Lara started to develop materials that she could give her patients. She wanted the parents (and children) to understand what she had found during her examination, including what was normal development as well as areas that may need attention.
Lara Cawthra has a Bachelor of Science, with a double major in Anatomy and Physiology (1994), Masters in Chiropractic (1996), Masters in Chiropractic (Paediatrics) (2003). She is a Fellow and former chair of the Royal College of Chiropractors’ Specialist Faculty of Pregnancy and Paediatrics and specialises in the care of infants, children and adolescents as well as the pregnant patient.
Lara is also a member of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, the British Society of Ecological Medicine and the British Association of Nutritional Therapists.
